Podcast recommendations

I find podcasts a great way to access thoughtful, good-quality information, ideas and perspectives on mental wellbeing and therapy. Here are some of my favourites:
Happy Place, Fearne Cotton
I love Fearne Cotton’s honest and vulnerable interviews – some of the stand out ones for me have been with Donna Lancaster, Will Young and Joe Wickes but there are many many more (and lots I still need to listen to).
How to Fail with Elizabeth Day
Elizabeth Day interviews celebrities about the things that haven’t gone right and what they’ve learnt from these mistakes. I love the philosophy behind this podcast and how it pushes celebrities to explore some of the less shiny parts of their stories.
Feel Better, Live More, Rangan Chatterjee
Chatterjee covers some fascinating topics in depth. His passion for living a healthier, happier life is infectious.
Therapy-focus:
Best Friend Therapy
Writer Elizabeth Day talks to her psychotherapist best friend, Emma Reed Turrell, on issues such as attachment styles, people pleasing, imposter syndrome, relationship games. The list goes on. Insightful but also accessible and I love the humour and warmth between Emma and Elizabeth who are clearly life long friends.
How Did We Get Here
This is a bit like being a fly on the wall in someone’s therapy session. Claudia Winkleman presents and Professor Tanya Byron works with people on their real life issues.
For Mothers:
The Motherkind Podcast
I love the scope of this podcast. Zoe Blaskey is on a mission to empower mothers by helping them find calm in the madness of modern mum life. She interviews experts and wellbeing teachers from across the world.
The Therapy Edit with Anna Mathur
These are bite-size podcasts from psychotherapist Anna Mathur. Great for a motivational boost and useful (but snappy) insights into becoming more aware in motherhood.
On Breathing:
Huberman Lab – How to breathe correctly for optimal health, mood, learning & performance
This is very long but has fascinating insights into the science behind breathing.
Meditation:
GABA, Adam Martin
Beautiful, creative recordings that combine music, comedy, drama, poetry and soundscapes to create an immersive meditation. If you struggle to sit in silence, this may be for you.
