Therapeutic Coaching

I’ve recently introduced a new service and wanted to tell you more about it: Therapeutic Coaching.

So first, why? And what is it?

Coaching creates thinking space. It’s a chance for someone to invest time to think, explore blocks and barriers and plan a way forward.

It can have a different energy to therapy because the focus is on development. The assumption is that the client is in an OK place – a place to do some deep thinking and take responsibility for changes they want to make in their life.

It doesn’t mean feelings aren’t allowed in the Coaching space – feelings are welcome but you are in the driving seat of shaping the direction the sessions go in. There might be times you look back to understand why you are where you are, but Coaching brings the focus to what’s next.

The beauty of coaching with me is if you do discover you want to dig deeper, as a qualified, registered counsellor (with regular supervision) I can safely support you through this.

Goals are a part of coaching but my style of coaching is that we approach this with curiosity. We work out how you want to use goal setting, what level of accountability you are looking for, how structured you want these goals to be. I do not have a set framework you need to follow – you know yourself best and we can explore what works for you and make adjustments if needed through the process.

I’ve introduced Coaching because there are people who might not want therapy, but need some thinking space. I also wanted to give my clients an option for progression – some clients want to shift to a different gear after they’ve done some therapy.

We are all different and like and need different things and I wanted to acknowledge this in my practice by offering some variety.

So who might benefit from Coaching? I thought the easiest way would be to offer some examples:

Working through change

Coaching can help you explore this and feel more in control about what’s next, for example if you are:

separating or divorcing
changing careers
entering a new phase of life, for example motherhood, children leaving home, menopause, retirement

Coaching gives you a chance to explore old patterns, limiting beliefs and obstacles so that you can move forward with clarity and intention.

Students

As a student, you might want to work out what’s next for you, career choices, relationship dynamics, how you manage exam stress or any concerns about the future.

Stuckness
Coaching can be a great place to explore stuckness and get an understanding of what’s keeping you stuck. We can work out ways to help you move out of that stuckness, find direction and purpose.

If you just want things to feel better:
Some of my clients have got caring responsibilities or work in complex situations. However, there aren’t always people you can offload to. Sometimes it can be useful to create a space just for you, away from caring responsibilities and other pressures to work out what you need to support yourself and bring the focus back to you.

Neurodivergence, including ADHD coaching
Many of my clients are neurodivergent, either diagnosed or self-diagnosed. It can be helpful to create a space to explore how to make adjustments in your life so that you can manage challenges such as overwhelm, make life more comfortable and thrive.

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. I believe this lived experience gives me a depth of knowledge and understanding, which can enrich our work together.
